Ruth Powell

Ruth died peacefully, surrounded by love, at Annie Brydon Lifecare on 31 August.

Cherished mother of Mary (Chamberlain), Martin, Gregory, Helen (MacGregor), Christopher, Anne (Corkran), Claire (Whareaitu), John, and Anthony. Ruth loved God, gardening and family. She was a creative poet and a wonderful role model for her 27 grandchildren, her 33 great grandchildren and her 2 great-great grandchildren.

If you would like to celebrate Ruth’s long legacy of love and faith, please join us for a Vigil at South Taranaki Funeral Services 268 High Street Hawera at 4.00pm on Sunday, 3rd September and a Funeral Mass at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Hawera 1.00pm Monday, 4th September followed by Internment at Hawera Cemetery.
The family welcomes donations to St Vincent de Paul in lieu of flowers. There will be a receptacle in the church to enable this.

  1. The genesis of who we become is so heavily embedded in our formative childhood years
Aunty Ruth was kind and thoughtful, as well as a very good neighbour to our family as we grew up.
I was always made to feel welcome when I wandered over the paddock to her house seeking out Helen’s company.
The call to lunch out the kitchen window always impressed me, with each child called by name in descending order of age.
I have no doubt Aunty Ruth will be welcomed home through the big gates after a life well lived.
Thinking of you all as you feel the loss,
    Sharon Kelly
